Uses
- To absorb output from around drain sites
- Excessive secretions from around a tracheostomy tube
- A sacrificial dressings around leaking devices
Positives
- It is great at going around circular tubes such as:
- Drains
- Tracheostomy
- Nephrectomy tubes
- Easy goes around the tube with minimal maniupation of the the device itself. This excludes tracheostomies especially if the flange has been sutured in
Limitations
- It absorbs very well but the liquid is not contained and can macerate the skin that the gauze touches
- It c an become over run very easily
