Uses
- Ideal for skin tears where the skin can be manipulated and transposed; apply the silicone dressing first, followed by a pad or Mepilex Border.
- Suitable for Solventum VACs used to promote granulation tissue over tendon, bone, or near major vessels.
- Used over defects filled with wound gel to prevent the gel from being absorbed by the secondary dressing.
Positives
- Prevents the wound bed from adhering to dressings.
- Blocks wound care gels from passing through, ensuring the gel remains on the wound bed rather than being absorbed by the secondary dressing.
- Acts as a protective barrier, preventing irritation to exposed tendons or bone.
Limitations
- Doesn’t stick to anything except itself
Precautions
- Jelonet or Inadine must not be used as substitutes for silicone in VAC dressings.
