Uses
- Loosely woven gauze that can be packed into cavities once soaked in either normal saline or iodine. Great for promoting secondary intention in large tissue defects.
- In small tissue deficits can be used to contain gel in a wound.
Positives
- Has radiopaque to allow for x-ray identification
- When soaked in .9% normal saline or iodine and packed into a cavity allowing for moist wound healing and micro-debriding on removal
Limitations
- Can macerate the peri-wound if allowed to sit onto surrounding skin.
- If left in the wound bed too long or if it is not soaked enough in normal saline, iodine or gel then it can adhere to the wound bed.
