Uses

• Used to paint arterial eschar wounds such as toes (to prevent wet gangrene occuring)
• Used to paint Unstagable Pressure Injuries (to allow demarcation to occur)

Positives

• Drying out wounds that are exudating large amounts of fluid
• Great for drying out toes to avoid wet necrosis
• Great for packing wounds with radioplague packing gauze (packing gauze with black strip down it)

Limitations

• Can cause skin irritations

Precautions

  • Iodine allergies
  • History of:
    • Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, history of Graves disease or nontoxic goiter
