Positives
- Time is saved due to quicker and easier application of the device, in comparison to compression bandages
- Reduces the use of bandaging materials – FarrowWraps can be washed and reused over a period of six months
- A greater independence and more control over their lives as the patient can remove the wrap whilst having a shower or swimming (if there is no wounds) and then replace once their activity has finished.
Limitations
- The product requires the patient to have reasonable dexterity to put the product on as well as the flexibility and body habitus to reach the ankles.
- Requires consistency and compliance to work
- Not affordable for everybody but is cheaper in the long run compared to bandaging.
Precautions
- Before applying the wraps the patient requires:
- Ankle Brachial Index or Toe Pressure studies and have been assessed that there is no arterial disease
- Assessed for the patient’s ability to put the product on as compliance is key with the garment
- The garment should be assessed to see if it is a falls risk for the less abled or elderly.
- Patient is required to be measured appropriately so that the fit of the garment is correct
