Uses
- Vac therapy is used to increase the bloody flow which increases the rate of granulation tissue being formed
- Vac therapy can also be used to stabilise and secure a Split Skin Graft after it is place on in theatres. The Vac will be put on by the surgeons in theatre and it will remain intact for 5 days or until the team deem fit
- Vac therapy can also be used for exudate management and primary closure support. This will require a silicone dressing interface between the skin and the foam otherwise the skin will be eroded by the foam.
Positives
- Allows of large granulation tissue to be generated
- Multiple foams can be used as long as they are touching
- Can be used in cavities that the end can be seen
Limitations
- If left in place for longer than 3 days granulation tissue can start growing into the foam and sharp debridement will be required.
Precautions
- Can not be used on active bleeding wounds
- An interface (Silicone) is required over small vessels and tendons
- Can not be used in blind cavities
