Tutorial Steps

Step 1

Clean the wound bed and the peri-wound. It is VERY important that your dry the peri-wound. If required you can use friars balsam to make the skin tacky.

Step 2

For this particular patient i double stacked the foam as you can see due to the tissue deficit being so great. If you were only to use a single piece the trac pad wound invert and causing sensor issues.

I always apply the first foam with the a piece of film as it allows the foam to stick and not fall out of the wound.

Step 3

Cover the rest of the foam with drape. Try not to put 2 layers of film as it starts to impair the semi-periable barrier properties of the film

Step 4

Cut a whole for the bridge dressing. The best option for this is to cut a reasonably large hole and then place the pre-cut drape on top of the large whole to get a perfect cut out whole.

Step 5

Place the bridge dressing on. Make sure the orientation is appropriate.

Step 6

Turn the vac on and massage around the edge of the vac foam to help the drape to stick and minimise leaks.

General Notes

What have we learnt:

1.Always talk to your patient. Time flies when they are distracted

2.I don’t use a lot of hydrocolloids around the wound edges as I can sometimes feel that this is a source of leaks

3.Using the premade bridge dressing is quick and easy

4.I like to reinforced the connection point

5.You can wrap with tubular form or cotton bandage and crepe to reduce the chances of leaks occuring
