Treatment Goals

Improve venous return and reduce oedema causing the venous leg ulcers to occur

Aim of Dressing

Wick away exudate from the wound bed and apply appropriate circumferential pressure to aid in the reduction of oedema in the leg

Consult(s) / Diagnostic Test Required

Arterial and Venous Duplex, Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) +/- Toe pressures (particularly if they are diabetic)

Newly diagnosed venous leg ulcer. This care plan can be used till appropriate duplexs, ABIs or toe pressures can be arranged.

Wash patient's legs thoroughly

Clean the patient's legs in the shower thoroughly. Assess if diluted betadine is required.

Apply aquacel and cut to approximate size of the wound bed. The aquacel will shrink approx. 20%
