Treatment Goals

To facilitate exudate management due to the large seroma that was built up before surgery. Once the exudate is under control then the vac therapy will be used in the closure of the groin wound.

    Infected right femoral graft

    Patient had an infected right femoral graft 3 years after its insertion. A seroma had formed and and incision and drainage was completed.

    Step 1

    Setup sterile field

    Setup your sterile field with all your sterile products

    Clean the wound

    Clean the wound gently as to not agitate the wound bed

    Apply Friars Balsam

    Apply friars balsam 3cm around the wound

    Step 4

    Pack the wound with white foam

    Pack the wound with white foam. Make sure that the ends of each piece of white foam is 5mm below the skin level.

    Pack the foam with black foam

    Pack the last 5mm of the wound with the black foam and then complete a mushroom technique to allow you to fit the track pad onto the foam.

    Apply the stoma ring

    Apply the stoma ring around the wound edge. This will stick to the friars balsam and create a great seal to stop any fluid undermining the dressing

    Apply drape

    Secure the dressing with the vac drape and connect to activac
