Treatment Goals

Offload the patient and minimise the amount of adhesive dressing to stop the stripping of the skin and implement a rigid offloading regime

Aim of Dressing

Lift the slough off the wound bed and apply a protective film over the skin stripped areas to allow healing to occur without further stripping

    Spinal Fusion dehiscence

    A patient with a 1 week old final fusion had a small dehiscence along the suture line.

    Step 1

    Setup sterile field

    Setup your sterile field with all your sterile products

    Clean the wound

    Clean the wound bed and the stripped skin

    Double layer Inadine

    Apply a double layer of inadine . Make sure that it is roungly the same size as the wound and is not mor than a double layer as it will act as a pressure point.

    Secure with Mepilex Border

    Try use a mepilex border just big enough

    Apply barrier film

    Apply the film to the stripped skin areas and allow to dry. You can squeeze the applicator to put a heavy coat of film on.

    Implement a offloading plan

    Organise for a wedge to be made by a occupational therapist to aid the patient in being kept off her back with support.
