Scope of Practice (ScOP) Designation

Treatment Goals

The aim for the treatment goal is completely individual. The most common treatments are corticosteroids and calcineurin antagonists (Dissemond et. al., 2023). This patient was severely cardiovascular compromised and had an active infection that was delaying his Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation. The decision was made to prioritise his cardiac care over treatment for the Pyoderma gangrenosum (diagnosis by exclusion).

Aim: Stabilise the wound. This is partticularly important as when pyoderma gangrenosum is excised it can precipitate pathergy and create a vicious cycle of the wounds increasing in size.
