Treatment Goals

Minimise further pressure the the affected area whilst aiding granulation tissue to occur

Aim of Dressing

Provide a moist wound bed environment whilst protecting the skin's integrity. By raising and supporting the affected area this will reduce the chances of further insult to the area.

Stage 3 Heel Pressure Injury

Where the heel has suffered a pressure injury and there has been complete dermal tissue loss with the injury extending into the subcutaneous structures

Setup sterile field

Setup your sterile field with all your sterile products

Clean the wound bed

Clean the wound gently to agitate the wound bed

Apply a double layer of Inadine

Gently pack the wound with the inadine

Apply Heel dressing

When applying the dressing minimise any creases

Elevate the heels

Order a heel elevator through ILS. This will raise the heels off the mattress whilst supporting the feet through the lower legs thus avoiding another pressure injury forming due to the large surface area of the support.

Stage 3 sacral/ scapula Pressure Injury

Where the sacral/ scapula has suffered a pressure injury and there has been complete dermal tissue loss with the injury extending into the subcutaneous structures

Using a wedge offload the area. The wedge will aid the patient to stay off the affected area and allow them to use it as a support.
