Treatment Goals

To stop the dry necrotic tissue causing an infection that could lead to sepsis. By drying out the toe and waiting for demarcation to occur it will allow the surgeon to know where the healthy tissue is and where to amputate which will aid in the healing process and stop repeated debridement.

To dry out the wet necrotic tissue

    Single Isolated toe

    Demarcation can take a long time but the positive patient outcome outweighs the time spent waiting.

    Step 1

    Clean foot with normal saline

    Thoroughly clean between each toe removing all betadine from previous episode of betadine painting
    Products Used
    Step 2

    Apply Betadine like a 5 year old in art class

    Apply a large amount of betadine everywhere. Grab some gauze and paint between the toes that are not necrotic.

    Allow to dry and if possible have open toe footwear with no socks
