Fistula ligation - VAC therapy

Patient has had their fistula ligated and is suitable for a VAC

Step 2

Cut the foam to fit the wound bed

Always look at the anatomical structures to make sure there is no tendon or vessels. If there is tendon showing use and interface (silicone dressing). If there is a vessel stop and speak to the surgical team.

Connect to Activac

Connect the dressing to the cannister and the VAC machine

Set the machine up

Set the Activac machine up at 100mmHg or 125mmHg continuous.

Patient has had their fistula ligated and is NOT suitable for a VAC or the wound has become drier than you wish

Clean the wound

Pack the wound

Pack the wound with Octenilen gel but smashing 50cm of 1.25cm ribbon gauze into a whole tube of the gel. DO NOT use the gauze from your dressing pack. This is pressed gauze and will not hold the gel well.
