To keep exposed granulating tissue or muscle moist whilst awaiting for the compartment swelling to reduce to allow for primary closure

TO provide a non-adherent moist dressing to preserve tissue viability

Fasciotomy - With Shoelaces

Where the fasciotomy site has shoelaces it is very hard and impractical to thread dressings underneath them. The shoelaces are there to bring in the skin edges closer together. Once they are slack they serve no purpose

Prepare Sterile Field

Prepare you sterile field and decant your sterile dressings onto the field using ANTT

Clean the wound

Clean the wound bed with normal saline

Apply Jelonet

Apply Jelonet over the fasciotomy site. a small amount of Jelonet can be on the peri-wound area

Secure the dressing

Secure the dressing with the island dressing

Fasciotomy - Surface VAC

Where shoelaces are not put on or have fallen out a VAC can be used in a 'surface VAC' style to aid in bringing in the skin edges closer together.

Prepare Sterile Field

Prepare sterile products - YOU MUST use a large dressing pack for all Vac dressings otherwise your sterile field will be compromised

Clean wound bed

Clean the wound bed with normal saline

Place interface

You must place an interface in between the VAC foam and the tissue. You do not granulation tissue to occur.

Place vac foam

Place VAC foam on top of the interface

Connect to cannister

Turn on the machine
