Treatment Goals

Stabilise primary closure to aid amputation socks and other molding techniques to be used to aid in sculpting the stump for a prosthesis

Aim of Dressing

To dry out the primary closure area so that the scabbed over areas do not break down causing a dehiscence of the primary closure.

Frequency of Dressing Change

Everyday

Below Knee Amputation

Patient had a BKA due to a large un-treated wound had began to starting to cause sepsis.

Step 1

Prepare you sterile field

Setup your sterile field with all your sterile products

Clean the suture line

Clean the suture line and dry very well

Step 3

Paint the suture line

Pain the suture line with betadine. 5cm on either side of the suture line. Allow the betadine to dry. 2 coats can be applied if required.

Apply a material island dressing

ONLY use a material island dressing as the film dressings will cause maceration.
