Single toe amputation

Patient had a acutely ischaemic great toe that needed to be amputated due to microvascular disease. The edges of the wound could easily be brought together. To minimise the chances of the wound edges becoming wet necrosis it is dried using betadine.

Setup sterile field

Setup your sterile field with all your sterile products

Clean the wound

Clean the wound gently as to not agitate the wound bed

Paint with betadine

Paint the incision directly with pure betadine as well as the peri-wound area.

To cover or not to cover

It is preferable to leave it uncovered to minimise sweating of the suture line. However if you must cover it do it minimally (eg. Mepilex border)
