Treatment Goals

Stabilise the suture line and scabbed area to allow secondary intention healing to occur.

Aim of Dressing

To dry out the suture line to decrease the chance of dehiscence whilst also stabilising the scabbed over area where the the suture line has dehisced.

Frequency of Dressing Change

Everyday

Amputated fingers

Patient suffers from severe microvascular disease which has caused the need for some of his fingers and one leg to be amputated.

Step 1

Setup sterile field

Setup your sterile field with all your sterile products
Products Used
Step 2

Clean the wound

Clean the wound gently as to not agitate the scabbed area and lift it off. Dry well

Step 3

Paint with betadine

Paint the suture line and scabbed area well. Paint the whole joint. You may repeat this 2 times if required.

Cover and secure

Cut the primapore to an appropriate size and wrap it over the suture. Secure with hypafix
