    5th toe ampuation site

    A young male with diabetes was required to have his 5th toe removed due to osteomyelitis and soft tissue damage that wasn't able to be managed conservatively.

    Step 1

    Setup sterile field

    Setup your sterile field with all your sterile products

    Clean the wound

    Clean the wound paying attention to make sure you get into the crevices of the wound bed

    Insert Aquacel ribbon

    Insert the aquacel ribbon into the wound. You may with to halve the width to make it easier. Use a probe or forceps to insert it into the depths of the wound.

    Dress with biatain non-adhesive

    Do not use a biatain adhesive as this will have a tendency to roll up causing pressure injuries.

    Secure with hypafix

    **Optional**

    You may wish to place some appropriately size tubular form over the foot from toes to ankle to keep the dressing from being soiled
