Treatment Goals

To preserve the skin flap that has been sutured back on to minimise the open wound that is required to heal

Aim of Dressing

Provide downward pressure and an atraumatic removal of a moist healing environment to aid in the taking of the skin flap.

Large skin tear requiring suture

Patient had a mechanical fall at home and fell against a piece of furniture causing a large skin tear.

Step 1

Prepare Sterile Field

Setup your sterile field with all your sterile products

Step 2

Clean the wound bed/skin flap

Clean the wound and skin flap maping sure not to 'scrub' but rather clean in the direction that does not lift the skin flap.

Double layer of inadine

lay 2 layers of inadine down to reduce the chances of the skin flap lifting when the mepilex border is removed

Step 4

Secure with Mepilex

Place mepilex border over the inadine and place an arrow going in the direction the mepilex border needs to be removed.
