Quick Overview

Scope of Practice (ScOP) Designation

Aim of Dressing

To give the patient as much control over their compression therapy as possible. By giving them the control the aim is to increase their compliance with the compression garment which in turn decreases the chances of their venous ulcer becoming worse or reoccuring.

Tips & Tricks

If you are putting it on its easier in the bed

If the patient is putting it on its easier for them to sit in the chair and then strap the first velco strap on. This will stop the wrap falling off. Then start from the bottom and work your way up.

Product Selection Disclaimer:

The wound care products being currently used are a suggestion ONLY. They do not take into account your patient's individual needs which you must assess. No funding from medical companies has been provided and wound care products are chosen on their merit and what is available on the NSW Health State Wound Care Contract. Where an exact brand name product is not available we suggest you review the alternative tab or use another wound care product from its category eg. Hydrofibre

Tutorial Steps

Step 1: Apply Sacrificial tubular bandage

Because we are in the hospital and we dont have access to a washing machine a oversized tubular bandage was used to protect the FarrowWrap from the cream and exudate. ** NO COMPRESSION IS TO COME FROM THE BANDAGE ** Please make sure the tubular bandage goes above where the FarrowWrap will begin. This is for comfort.

Step 2: Apply FarrowWrap

FarrowWraps are designed to mimic compression bandages and they are designed with a 50% bandage overlap already. All you are doing to tightening the straps to a comfortable level for the patient. Compliance is the key here. Some pressure, even if its not at the appropriate level, is better than none.

Step 3: Appropriate foot wear

Apply appropriate foot wear. In this case its a non-slip sock or it could be a shoe.

General Notes

What have we learnt:

1.Have the patient in the bed as it will save your back

2.FarrowWraps are easy to put on when the patient is laying down. There is a different technique for the patient and yourself when the patient is sitting out of bed

3.Talking to and educating the patient and their family is easy and simple when doing the dressing
