Treatment Goals

To provide antimicrobial cover on and around the surrounding peri-wound whilst the matrix is granulated into whilst providing maximum adhesion through Vac therapy

Aim of Dressing

Reduce the chances of infection in the peri-wound whilst maximising the granulation tissue integrating with the BTM

BTM Dressing with Vac machine

By using a Vac machine the patient's dressing is slim line and a 3m-KCI Bridge dressing can be used if footwear is required to be worn.

Step 1

Prepare Sterile Field

Prepare sterile field and sterile products ** You MUST use a large dressing pack**

Clean BTM

Clean the sealing membrane (see picture) and if required 'milk' collections of fluid under the membrane through rolling the mouth swabs over the membrane so that the liquid comes out through the perforations in the membrane

Apply Urgo Tul Ag

Cut the Tul to the shape of the wound bed and then place down on either side after removing the two plastic sheets

Apply Vac

Choose appropriately sized vac foam

Connect to vac

Connect vac dressing to cannister and then the vac machine

Secure with catheter strap

Secure vac tubing with a catheter strap

Secure dressing

If required you may find using tubifast or tubular form to secure dressing

BTM Dressing with simple dressing

Where a vac machine is either inappropriate or a patient can not handle then a simple dressing can be used but more care should be take to make sure compression is applied.

This will protect the BTM from blunt force trauma

Secure dressing

Secure with the appropriate sized tubifast or tubular form to secure dressing
